Culture Shock
According to the dictionary, "culture shock" is a term used to describe the anxiety and feelings (of surprise, disorientation, confusion, etc.) felt when people have to operate within an entirely different cultural or social environment such as a foreign country.

Ciao bella ragazza!!!
Thanks so much for you comment!!
Wow, studied in Italy? That’s awesome. I guess 1 year is just perfect to experience those little things in a new culture. Although I’ve never had the chance to visit Italy yet, my mom spends the summers there and she tells me wonderful things about it!
Would you add anything new to the list? What was the most surprising thing for you when you got there? I really want to hear this one!!

Oh my gosh I could go on and on with this! When I got there the most surprising thing was probably how small the homes were. I am used to having a tv and a place to relax but there we only had bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen. And no tv! It was also really weird how the water worked for the shower and how you had to wait for it to heat and that it could run out! I now take 10 minute showers tops and can’t understand how I took longer showers before Italy. The grocery store was also really different. It was weird not having salad dressing like you said. And when I came back to the US I remember shopping with my mom and getting really overwhelmed like why are there 50 kinds of cereal?! People also looked at us funny in Italy when we were wearing flip flops in the spring, they only wear them to the beach. It was also interesting that when we would go to bars and clubs there weren’t too many girls out, just a lot of guys…and they were much more forward then the guys in the US! So interesting and eye opening. Like I said, I could go on forever!

Haha, yeah! The grocery stores are REALLY different, I agree!
So funny.

I love this list. It is a gift to get an outside view of our culture from someone I know. I have questions too about some of them. Like, why would the waiter laugh at me for ordering water in a restaurant?
I like our differences, but cherish our soul deep connection

Thanks Reena! And thank you for coming in to check it out
The reason why the waiter might be surprised is because people hardly ever eat out.
And if they can drink water at home any time, would would they order it on such a special occasion? Especially because it’s not free in most restaurants. They only have bottled water available for customers, which is really stupid if you ask me
